In Rome, the annual square meter rent of high street retail space was about four times higher than the average rent in a shopping center. As of the third quarter of 2021, the rental rate of a high street shop was 3,400 euros per square meter per year, while shopping center rent cost 840 euros per square meter per year. In 2021, retail rents in Rome fell for a second year in a row. This was likely due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on football, consumer spending, and international travel.
