The Yomiuri Giants are the oldest team of the Japanese professional baseball circuit and were founded in 1934. Many of the teams already existed before the inauguration of the current league system in 1950, although the franchises and locations of some of them, especially of teams in the Pacific League, have changed in the course of time.
