Weekly land burned by wildfires in Italy 2024

Wildfires in Italy were more intense in 2023 when compared to the previous year. On July 22, 2023, the area burned by wildfires saw a 10-fold increase from the previous week – totaling nearly 20,000 hectares – and by August 12, 2023, Italy had a total burnt area of about 58,000 hectares. On August 26th, 2024, the area burned by wildfires in Italy was almost half the area affected the previous year on the same date. Nonetheless, that year, Italy ranked as one of the countries with the largest area burned by wildfires in Europe.
