According to a survey conducted between 2020 and 2021, nearly 33 percent of the respondents in Tunisia, who had a professional education, intended to leave the country to live, work, or study abroad. The intention to emigrate decreased among people who had attained lower educational levels. For instance, 12 percent of the respondents with only primary education planned to leave Tunisia.

The survey included a total of 27,607 respondents, of which:
- 11,148 Tunisians non migrants;
- 6,475 returnees;
- 7,003 migrants;
- 2,981 foreigners residing in Tunisia (immigrants).
