According to a survey conducted between 2020 and 2021, nearly 40 percent of the youth aged 15-29 years in Tunisia intended to leave their country to live, work, or study abroad. The intention to emigrate decreased among older age groups. For instance, 14 percent of the respondents aged 40-49 years planned to leave Tunisia.

The survey included a total of 27,607 respondents, of which:
- 11,148 Tunisians non migrants;
- 6,475 returnees;
- 7,003 migrants;
- 2,981 foreigners residing in Tunisia (immigrants).
