Distribution of economic zones in Africa 2021, by region

North Africa had the highest concentration of economic zones in Africa. As of 2021, the region accounted for nearly 30 percent of the total number of economic zones on the continent. On the other hand, these types of zones were least prevalent in Central Africa. Economic zones - including Special Economic Zones (SEZs), free trade zones, free zones, export-processing zones, industrial parks, bonded logistics parks, and urban enterprise zone - amounted to over 200 in Africa as of 2021.
