In 2022, the area of certified organic tea plantations in Japan amounted to about 1.45 thousand hectares, the highest amount in history. Until 2017, figures for tea plantations were included in the statistic for certified organic orchards. These numbers imply that the area for organic tea plantations has been increasing steadily with each year throughout the entire past decade.
