Import volume of certified organic processed food to Japan FY 2015-2021
In fiscal year 2021, over 124 thousand tons of processed foods imported to Japan were certified organic, representing a stark increase from about 54.75 thousand tons in the previous fiscal year.
Agricultural produces distributed as organic foods in Japan have to be certified under the Organic Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS) system or a comparable system in the case of imported products. The certification is done by auditors accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
