On average, one out of five adults in Africa lacked formal education between 2016 and 2018. Educational attainment varied widely among countries. Over 60 percent of adults in Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali did not have formal education. In Mauritius and Gabon, only one percent of respondents did not attend school.
