Venezuela produced oil with the highest gas flaring intensity in the world, with an intensity of 44.6 cubic meters per barrel of oil produced. By comparison, despite being one of the largest oil producers worldwide, Saudi Arabia had the lowest gas flaring intensity, at 0.7 cubic meters per barrel of oil produced. This is not surprising, as the Middle Eastern country banned non-emergency flaring in the early 1970's.
