During a 2021 survey conducted among mobile internet users from the lowest socio-economic classes in Brazil, 43 percent of respondents said they stopped seeking news online due to the lack of mobile internet connection. That year, the lowest classes accounted for 76 percent of Brazil's population; their household income amounted to a maximum of 3,194.33 Brazilian reals. Around 30 percent of the interviewees stated that they failed to check if a piece of information was false also because they could not access the internet through their cell phones. A year earlier, about five percent of consumers who participated in another survey said they shared news stories in Brazil as soon they received them, without checking their veracity.
