In a survey conducted in Africa in 2019, the majority of respondents (68 percent) in the private business sector mentioned internal resources - such as cash and cash flows - as their funding source for digitalization initiatives in the future. On the other hand, only six percent referred to capital markets as their funding source. The rest of respondents chose either bank lending or private equity as funding source.

Included in the survey were 2,993 private businesses with a turnover of at least ten million euros in 53 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. 200 private businesses from nine Sub-Saharan African countries were included and form the findings of this survey. This survey included all respondents.
