According to a survey conducted in 2019, the majority of the private businesses surveyed in Africa reported losses in revenues due to shortage of skilled labor. These corresponded to 79 percent of the total respondents. The highest share was found in West Africa, where 82 percent of respondents confirmed losses related to skills shortage.

Included in the survey were 2,993 private businesses with a turnover of at least ten million euros in 53 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. 200 private businesses from nine Sub-Saharan African countries were included and form the findings of this survey. This survey included all respondents.
