
Primary languages spoken at home in Kenya 2019, by area
Around 44 percent of the urban population surveyed in Kenya spoke Swahili as primary language at home in 2019. This share decreased to nearly 19 percent in rural areas. English was spoken at home by eight percent of respondents in urban areas, while it was the primary language for three percent of respondents in rural zones. Swahili and English are Kenya's official languages.
