In 2023, most of the solar photovoltaic installations in Italy were distributed on non-ground surfaces such as buildings, sheds, and canopies. The highest penetration of ground-mounted PV panels was observed in the southern regions of Italy, in particular Apulia and Basilicata, at approximately 60 percent. In the northern mountainous regions, on the contrary, it is possible to observe a widespread penetration of the PV capacity of non-grounded plants, with maximum values observable well over 90 percent in Liguria, Aosta Valley, and in the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bozen.
