Fintech concentrated the highest number of funded startups in Africa as of 2023. Of the total 406 startups that raised funding in the continent that year, around 31.5 percent were in the sector of financial technology. This represents 128 companies in the sector that was able to secured funding from investors. E-commerce and retail tech, and e-health followed, each with shares of 11.3 percent and 10.1 percent in the total number of funded startups. Overall, startups in Africa raised more than 3.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2022.
