In 2020, around 5.8 thousand survivors of sexual assault accessed Sexual Assault Referral Centers (SARC) in Nigeria. That year, there were over 11 thousand reported cases of rape, according to the Human Rights Commission. The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development stated that no fewer than 3.6 thousand cases of rape were registered during the lockdown. Over the last years, the number of victims who accessed SARC services in Nigeria experienced an increase.
