According to a survey on mobile apps conducted by Rakuten Insight in September 2021, 57 percent of respondents from the Philippines who never purchased an app before did not find a need to do so because the free version of the app had everything they needed. In contrast, six percent of respondents stated that they did not purchase any mobile app because a family member or friend had a paid version of the app which they can use.
