The distance traveled by ships in the Arctic Ocean (corresponding with the Polar Code area) increased by more than 75 percent between 2013 and 2019. While in 2013, ships sailing in the Arctic Ocean traveled some 6.1 million nautical miles, in 2019, this number grew to around 10.7 million nautical miles.
