According to a survey carried out in 2020 in both Guatemala and Mexico to immigrants from different Latin American countries, around 28 percent of respondents stated the need for using smugglers on their journeys is greater than before the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 31 percent did not know if and how the necessity for smugglers changed during this crisis. Moreover, another survey showed that their migration journey had been deeply impacted by the pandemic.
