The number of irregular migrants that transited through the Darien Gap, the geographic region which separates Panama and Colombia, peaked in 2021, when more than 91,300 persons used this route. Haitians and Cubans have made up most of the number of migrants who transit through the Darien Gap in the last years. This migration route is among the deadliest ones in the Americas.
