As of 2023, the solar energy capacity in Africa reached around 13.5 gigawatts, increasing from 12.7 gigawatts in the previous year, an increase of more than eight percent. Africa's solar energy capacity has been annually increasing since 2011. In that year, it was measured at only 331 megawatts. In the period under review, the continent's solar energy capacity increase by over a sixteen-fold.
