In 2022, the share of fossil power in the total energy generation in Japan amounted to 72.4 percent, which marks the first time in ten years in which the share did not shrink compared to the previous year. Until 2021, figures decreased continuously compared to close to 88 percent in 2014.
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Japanese government currently aims to replace fossil power generation with renewable energies.
