The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit the tourism industry in Italy hard in 2020 and 2021, due to the country enacting travel restrictions to limit the spread of the virus. As a result of this, the revenue of travel agencies and tour operators in Italy dropped from a peak of 13.3 billion euros in 2019 to roughly 3.1 billion euros in 2020. This figure is expected to decrease further in 2021, with revenue falling by 81 percent over 2019 and reaching around 2.5 billion euros.
