Renewable energy sources accounted for some 82 percent of electricity generation in Mozambique as of 2018. This was the lowest share registered since 2000, when nearly the entire electric energy generation in the country originated from renewable sources. As of 2020, the electricity output from renewables in Mozambique was measured at 14 terawatt hours, one of the highest in Africa.
