In 2019, high-income individuals were the ones spending the most on private healthcare in Italy. In general, private healthcare expenditure per capita increased with personal income. People whose annual personal income was above 100 thousand euros, indeed, spent on average roughly 1.6 thousand euros on healthcare each. Breaking down this figure, most of this spending was out-of-pocket, while 415 euros per person were invested in supplementary healthcare insurance. When considering private healthcare expenditure as a share of personal income, however, the situation turned upside down, with individuals with an income below 15 thousand euros per year spending the most in relative terms. This statistic depicts the per capita private healthcare spending in Italy in 2019, by type of funding and income (in euros).
