In the second quarter of 2021, games were by far the leading app category in terms of consumer spending. Users worldwide spent over 6.5 billion U.S. dollars on gaming applications. The next category by user spending was entertainment apps, which generated nearly one billion U.S. dollars during the examined period. Among the selected app categories, books and reference applications generated the least user spending, around 400 million U.S. dollars.
