Instagram: hate speech-containing content removal as of Q3 2023

In the third quarter of 2023, Instagram took action on seven million pieces of hate speech content on the platform, down from 9.8 million such content actions in the preceding quarter. In Q3 2023, Facebook removed 9.6 million pieces of hate speech.

This metric shows the scale of our enforcement activity. Taking action could include removing a piece of content from Facebook or Instagram, covering photos or videos that may be disturbing to some audiences with a warning, or disabling accounts. In the event we escalate content to law enforcement, we don’t additionally count that."

Content actioned is the total number of pieces of content that Instagram took action on for hate speech. It includes both content that we actioned after someone reported it, and content that we found proactively.
