Sanitation and water services at health care facilities in Rwanda 2019
In Rwanda, about 65 percent of health facilities had basic hygiene services as of 2019. This meant that they had functional hand hygiene facilities with water and soap and/or alcohol-based hand rub available at points of care, and within five meters from toilets. Furthermore, nearly half of the health care facilities (45.83 percent) in Rwanda had limited health care waste management services. In such facilities, there were limited separation and/or treatment and disposal of sharps and infectious waste, but not all requirements for basic service were met.
