South Africa produced the largest amount of coal in Africa as of 2020. The country registered an output of roughly 247.4 million metric tons of coal, which corresponded to over 90 percent of the continent's production volume. Mozambique was the second main coal producer in Africa, with an output of nearly 7.4 million metric tons.
