The annual number of passengers of the rapid transit system, also known as the "U-Bahn", in Berlin, Germany reported an overall increase between 2014 to 2019, peaking at 596 million passengers. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the ridership of the U-Bahn in the German capital declined approximately 40 percent, compared with 2019 levels. In 2021, the passengers transported by the U-Bahn dropped for a consecutive year to 359 million.
