According to a 2019 survey, the primary way that North American parents made tradeoffs to ensure they could fund their child's hockey expenses was to take fewer vacations. Meanwhile, 63 percent of respondents also made tradeoffs on household items such as entertainment and groceries. Two percent of respondents stated that they downsized to a smaller house to ensure funding for youth hockey expenses.
