As of April 2021, the UK had pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 58 percent until 2030, in comparison to 2010 levels. That was among the most ambitious targets submitted by nationally-determined contributions under the Paris Agreement. The European Union pledged a reduction of 46 percent.
According to the 2018 IPCC report, in order to remain on track to halt global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels, global emissions should be slashed by 40 percent from 2010 levels until 2030.
