Approximately 1.15 million metric tons of plastic packaging waste generated in the United Kingdom were sent for recycling in 2022. Of this total, some 54 percent was processed in the UK, with the remaining amount exported for processing abroad. By comparison, in 2010, about 70 percent of plastic packaging waste created in the UK was shipped abroad.
