Weak retail infrastructure, problems with distribution, and late payouts were identified to be the main challenges in the Ukrainian publishing industry by 14 percent of respondents, according to a survey conducted in 2020. Furthermore, a decrease in reading demand was the second most serious problem facing the sector, as reported by 10 percent of the interview participants.

* The survey sample included senior and junior staff, company owners, early career publishers, freelancers, and permanent staff from small, medium, and large publishing houses across Ukraine.
** From February to March 2020, face-to-face interviews. From July to August, the interviews were conducted remotely via Zoom.
