As of July 2021, a survey in multiple online markets found that male internet users were more than twice as likely to follow online gaming influencers than their female counterparts. Overall, 12 percent of male of online users stated that they were following gaming influencers compared to five percent of female internet users who did the same.

According to the source: "The insights in this report series are drawn from a recent global Custom survey on the global influencer sector and, specifically, the gaming influencer landscape today, covering 17 global markets and nearly 19,000 respondents." Respondents were aged 16+ in Australia and China, all other markets were 18+.
