In 2022, the export value of K-dramas broadcast on program provider channels reached around 214.4 million U.S. dollars. The export of K-dramas shown on such channels overtook those of K-dramas shown on terrestrial TV channels in 2018. K-dramas are part of the so-called "hallyu wave" (Korean Wave), which describes the rising popularity of South Korean pop culture and other cultural content worldwide.
