As of December 2019, there were almost 14 thousand day care facilities in Italy for children aged under three years, for a total of over 360 thousand places. Regional data shows large disparities within the country. The North-Eastern regions had the highest coverage, with 34.5 places available every 100 infants, while the lowest availability was observed in the Southern regions and on the Islands.
