The carbon dioxide emissions of new cars in the European Union (EU) decreased by more than 11 percent in 2020. This trend coincides with travel restrictions amid the coronavirus epidemic and a significant increase in electric car registrations in 2020. The amount of CO2 emitted by new cars had shown an upward tendency between 2017 and 2019.
