In Iceland, the at-risk-of-poverty rate was higher among foreign-born citizens than among local-born citizens between 2013 and 2018. It was lowest for all groups in 2014, whereas the year of the highest level varies between local-born, EU-born, and non-EU born citizens. In 2018, the rate was 12.5 percent both among foreigners born inside and outside of the EU, whereas it was 7.5 among the local-born population.

The at-risk-of-poverty rate shows the share of people who have an equivalized disposable income below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold. The threshold is 60 % of the median income after tax and social transfers.
Numbers have been rounded.
The total disposable income of a household is calculated by adding together the personal income received by all of household members plus income received at household level. Missing income information is imputed.
Disposable household income includes:
- all income from work (employee wages and self-employment earnings)
- private income from investment and property
- transfers between households
- all social transfers received in cash including old-age pensions
To take into account the impact of differences in household size and composition, the total disposable household income is "equivalised".
A 'private household' means "a person living alone or a group of people who live together in the same private dwelling and share expenditures, including the joint provision of the essentials of living".
