Williamson Diamond Limited (WDL) dominated the diamond production in Tanzania in the financial year 2018/2019. The operator had a share of 97 percent in the total production. In operation since 1940, Williamson is the major diamond mine in Tanzania and one of the largest diamond mines in Africa. The operator WDL is owned by the mining group Petra Diamonds, which holds 75 percent of the operations, and the Government of Tanzania, with 25 percent ownership.
