According to Sandrine Rousseau, the defeated candidate in the second round of the ecologist primary, the only thing that allows us to look at the future serenely and to change our trajectory is radicality. She claims to be a radical ecologist, and considers that it is necessary to profoundly change the institutions and rules of the liberal system in order to bring a halt to the productivist system at the origin of climate change. If Yannick Jadot, the other ecologist candidate, winner of the second round of the primaries, is now trying to place himself in the race for radicalism initiated by his competitor, the ecologists are not the only ones to follow this trend.
However, for the majority of survey respondents, the ideas expressed during the French presidential campaign are neither more nor less radical than in 2017. 18 percent of respondents between the ages of 18 and 24 consider the current ideas to be more moderate, while 38 percent of people aged over 65 consider them to be more radical.
