As of October 2021, there were 2,200 physical bookstores in Brazil, down from 3,095 in 2014 – a decline of about 29 percent across seven years. In 2020, the net loss of Saraiva, one of Brazil's largest chain of bookstores, added up to over 152 million Brazilian reals.
