Taiwan's most popular mobile wallet comes from Japan, and its user base is expected to grow by around 30 percent between 2020 and 2025. Indeed, several of the most used mobile wallets in Taiwan, including the likes of Apple Pay and Google Pay, are from abroad. JKoPay is the main exception, being both a homegrown app as well as pure play in that is not part of a bigger ecosystem. LINE Pay, on the other hand, derives from Japan's popular messaging service and functions within an "app-inside-a-bigger-app" setting. JKoPay does not do this, instead creating QR codes for in-store mobile transactions.

The source does not provide any information regarding consumers using more than one app at the same time. It may, therefore, be that the total users of all apps combined is higher than the country's population

The source explicitly states that "we look (...) only for open wallets, ie those that have the ability to make payments on multiple sites, rather than in reference to an ability to transfer funds between different wallets. Thus we do not focus on transactions conducted via cards stored by a retailer purely for use on that retailer’s website or mobile app."
