Monthly wholesale electricity prices in Sweden 2019-2024

The average wholesale electricity price in Sweden stood at 15 euros per megawatt-hour in September 2024, up from 13 euros per megawatt-hour in the previous month.

Electricity prices soared in Europe in 2021 and 2022. This was as a result of a supply shortage of natural gas and coal due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a decrease in hydropower production, and a general market tightening after the end of the COVID-19 crisis.
