As of the third quarter of 2021, the growth rate of the contribution of mining and quarrying to Ghana's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) declined by 11.2 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year. This followed the generally fluctuating trend observed in the period under study. The value added of mining to GDP in Ghana reached approximately 4.9 billion Ghanaian cedis (GHS), roughly 809.4 billion U.S. dollars, in the second quarter of 2021.
