Africa is particularly vulnerable to climate change. A large share of the population lives below the poverty line and its livelihood depends on activities extremely sensitive to climate changes and weather conditions. Between 1970 and 2019, the population of Eswatini was the most exposed to climate-related hazards, especially to droughts. In Eswatini, 110 thousand people every million were affected by natural disasters. Drought is the natural disaster that causes the largest number of deaths in Africa, much more than floods and landslides. Niger, Malawi, and Lesotho also recorded some of the most affected populations in relation to their populations.
