Protective packaging such as bubble wrap and air pillows accounted for 35 percent of global e-commerce plastic packaging use in 2019. This made it the most used plastic packaging product type that year. The quantity of e-commerce plastic packaging use in 2019 was roughly 2.1 billon pounds. This figure is expected to more than double by 2025. The rise in e-commerce has also resulted in the increased production of paperboard packaging.
