Germany was the largest producer of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions in OECD Europe in 2021, at 963,200 metric tons. In 1990, the United Kingdom was the largest producer of NOx emissions in OECD Europe, having emitted more than three million metric tons. Since then, the UK's NOx emissions have fallen by almost 80 percent to a low of 677,500 metric tons in 2021.
