POS payment methods in the Middle East and Africa 2023-2027

Cash was the most popular payment method used for Point of Sales (POS) transactions in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) as of 2023, accounting for 35 percent of the total POS payments. In the same year, debit cards and digital/mobile wallets followed with a share of 23 percent and 18 percent, respectively. By 2027, mobile wallets were forecast to overtake cash and become the leading payment method in the region. The use of digital wallets, including mobile money, was the only payment method forecast to increase from 18 percent to 33 percent.
